Many passengers have been stranded as floods caused by heavy downpours submerged a portion of Kano-Maiduguri highway in Katagum LGA, Bauchi State.
The heavy downpour which cut off part of the highway along Malori-Guskuri village has stuck vehicles, forcing drivers to wait for the water to dry to reduce for vehicle movement.
A video clip of the road posted by Zagazola Makama, a security analyst in Lake Chad, showed many passengers and locals stranded by the waterside, while some drivers took the risk of passing through the flooded road.
During a visit to the cut-off road, Bauchi State Governor, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed said his administration is ready to take off the repairs of the road if the federal government refuse to do so.
Governor Bala, who said the road serves as a major link between the North-East and North-Western parts of the country, appealed to the federal government to intervene so as to ease the hardship experienced by motorists plying the road.
‘’The urgent intervention by the federal government was necessary to prevent carnage and associated hardships on the highway,” he said.
The governor said his administration would send a team of engineers to ascertain the bill of quantity and forward it to the federal Ministry of Works for immediate action.
He, however, said the moment the federal government failed to do the project, his administration will do it for the good of the people.
