The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State has castigated Governor Inuwa Yahaya led All Progressives Congress (APC) government for failure to implement the agreed-upon minimum wage increase.
PDP said despite signing the wage agreement, the state government has fallen short, delivering only a fraction of the promised wage increase.
In a statement issued to newsmen in Gombe and signed its state Public Relations Officer, Abdulkadir Ahmad Dukku, the party lamented that the government’s neglect undermined the livelihoods of dedicated civil servants and revealed a troubling pattern of insincerity and disregard for workers.
Dukku emphasized that the PDP has long advocated for fair compensation, criticizing the current approach as self-serving and prioritizing political posturing over genuine support.
The PDP’s stance comes amid recent delays in October salary payments and unfulfilled promises of a minimum wage increase.
It partly read: “This situation serves as a stark reminder that the APC’s assurances are often little more than empty rhetoric. We stand in solidarity with our civil servants, urging all Gombawa to reject the deceptive tactics employed by the current administration and to demand the accountability and transparency they rightfully deserve.
“We call upon the APC government to honor its commitments and treat our civil servants with the respect and dignity they have earned through their unwavering dedication to public service. It is time for a government that genuinely cares for its people, prioritizing their welfare above all else.”
