PDP Wants Nasarawa REC’s Sacked, Commences 7-day Protest

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Karu local government of Nasarawa State has demanded the immediate removal of the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Ishaya Tanko.

Carrying placards with inscriptions such as — #INEC Keep Your Promise; International Communities Save Our Country Our Leaders Are Compromised; #INEC We Say No To Manipulations; Protect Us From Manipulators among others — the party also called on the electoral body to review the result of the governorship and state assembly elections held in the state on March 18, alleging INEC of being biased.

Comrade Chindo Allahyayi, the group’s leader, on Friday declared a 7-day peaceful protest in Karu and urged the commission to review the results scored by the governorship candidates in the state.

INEC had on Monday declared Governor Abdullahi Sule, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the governorship election in the state. He polled 347, 209 votes to defeat PDP’s David Ombugadu who polled 283, 016 votes. Comrade Allahyayi insisted that Ombugadu of the PDP won the election.

“We are embarking on seven days of protest to let the whole state and nation know that our candidate is the winner,” he said. “Therefore, we are calling on the attention of INEC to reverse its decision, to return our candidate winner immediately. We are calling on INEC to go back to the IReV portal to check all the results in all the polling units in the 13 LGA of Nasarawa State to see in clear terms that PDP candidate David Ombugadu won the March 18 governorship in the state.”
