Pensioners Storm Niger Govt House, Demand Gratuities

Pensioners in their hundreds on Monday took to the street of Minna, Niger state capital to protest their unpaid gratuities by the current government of Abubakar Sani Bello who has less than eight months to leave office.

The aggrieved pensioners would later mobilised themselves to the government house where they also organised prayer session.

Addressing the protesting retirees in the government house, Ahmed Ibrahim Matani, the Secretary to the state government (SSG), in a video pleaded with them to exercise more patience as the government is very much aware of their predicaments. He assured them of prompt action.

But the protesters disagreed even as the SSG claimed that there was no adminusatrion that prioriotised monthly pension like the current government.

The pensioners continued with their protest carrying placards with different inscriptions —- ‘Lolo pay us our money’, ‘Lolo pensioners are dying and Niger state pensioners are dying.’

However, protesters insisted that Abubakar Sani Bello must address them and provide succour before they could match home.

Some protesters who speak in the video said that they receive as low as N5,000 on a monthly basis while some get N30,000.

“We are not satisfied until we see the money in our hand,” the protester chorused in the video.
