As the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) commences a two-day warning strike today, commercial and government operations in banks and offices have paralysed in Bauchi.
The strike follows continuous worsening economic conditions among Nigerians following the removal of fuel subsidies by the Federal Government in May this year.
Checks by WikkiTimes reveal that banks in Bauchi metropolis closed in compliance with the strike order. Customers could be seen stranded at the entrance of some commercial banks along the Murtala Mohammed Way.
However, the situation is entirely different at the ever-busy Ahmed Abdulkadir Bank Road, the street housing most commercial banks in Bauchi, all banks are empty and free from the usual crowd that used to depict a normal business as usual days.
Similarly, Government offices, ministries, departments and agencies are completely deserted. For instance, at the Bauchi State Water Board, authorities placed leaves on the gate to signal that the office was closed, hence workers and the public should stay away.
NLC leadership in Bauchi, through a strong monitoring team, moves around the city to ensure total compliance with the strike.
