The Plateau State branch of the Nigerian Red Cross has celebrated World First Aid Day with focus on sensitising relevance of first aid in sporting activities.
The event which took place on Saturday at the Sharahill Leadership Training Center in Jos North was themed “First Aid and Sport” and was well attended by volunteers and Red Cross officials.
During the celebration, Nuraddeen Hussaini Magaji, Branch Secretary and Training Officer for Plateau State, told WikkiTimes about the crucial role of first aid in sports.
He said “ having the skills to handle injuries from minor sprains to serious accidents is vital for athletes, coaches, and spectators to ensure immediate and effective treatment” .
Magaji also highlighted the annual event’s goal of promoting first aid awareness worldwide, pointing out the ongoing challenges such as limited public knowledge and the lack of adequate ambulance services for emergency responses.
Yunusa Iyami Abdullahi, Commandant of the Congo Rosha Jos North division, shared her experience from the event, noting the valuable lessons on leadership and resilience in handling life’s difficulties.
As participants reflected on their experiences and lessons learned, the day reaffirmed the Red Cross’s commitment to enhancing community safety and preparedness through effective first aid training.
