The Kano State Police Command says it arrested 3,081 suspects for various criminal offences across the state in 2025, including armed robbery, kidnapping, drug trafficking and thuggery.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Ibrahim Bakori, disclosed this on Tuesday during an end-of-year briefing at the command’s headquarters in Kano.
Mr Bakori said the arrests were made through intelligence-led operations carried out across different parts of the state since he assumed office on March 17.
According to him, the suspects include 146 alleged armed robbers, 50 suspected kidnappers, 112 suspected drug dealers and more than 2,300 suspected thugs.
He added that 14 victims abducted during separate incidents were rescued by police operatives.
The police commissioner said the command also recovered several weapons and exhibits during the operations, including AK-47 rifles, pistols, locally made firearms, ammunition, illicit drugs, stolen vehicles, motorcycles, tricycles and mobile phones.
Mr Bakori attributed the recorded successes to improved intelligence gathering, sustained community engagement, capacity building for officers and joint operations with other security agencies, including border patrols.
He said the launch of Operation Kukan Kura had also contributed to the reduction in crime and improved security across the state.
The commissioner urged residents to continue to support the police with timely and credible information, noting that public cooperation remains critical to effective policing.
“We remain unwavering in our commitment to maintaining peace and security in Kano State,” Mr Bakori said.
