The Niger State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Isha Yusuf, in connection with the alleged theft of a vehicle parked within the premises of Diko Market.
In a statement released to newsmen in Minna, Wasiu Abiodun, the police spokesman, said the suspect was arrested by the operatives of Gawu-Banbagisa division last week.
His statement partly reads, “On 19th July, 2025 at about 5.30pm, Police operatives of Gawu-Banbagida Division at Diko outpost arrested a suspected car snatcher, at Diko market Isah Yusuf with 40yrs of age”.
“The suspect attempted to steal a Honda Civic vehicle with Reg No. GGE 04 AC parked within the market premises”.
According to eye witnesses, he was immediately noticed and attacked by a mob and injured, but later rescued by the Police and taken to Gawu-Banbagida Division.
“During interrogation, he admitted to the crime and mentioned one Abubakar, who is also an accomplice and his ally, who joined him to execute the act in the market, but abruptly escaped from the scene without being noticed”, he stated.
Abiodun further added that exhibits recovered includes spare keys, fabricated keys and other items.
