The police in Kano have arrested a 22 year old man for alleged kidnapping of his neighbour’s two and half year old daughter in Sabuwar Gandu, Kwarin Barka quarters.
The suspect identified as Zakariyya Muhammed, allegedly kidnapped his neighbour’s daughter and threatened the father to provide a two million naira ransom before his daughter will be released.
WikkiTimes learnt that the father, upon receiving the threat call reported the matter to the police who traced and arrested their neighbor with the little girl.
Confirming the arrest in a statement, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, Kano State Police Command spokesman said the incident was reported by the father of the victim.
Kiyawa said Zakariyya was arrested by police detectives from the Anti-kidnapping Squad of the Command following intelligence-led technical operations adding that the victim was rescued unharmed.
“On 04/07/2024 at about 4pm, a report was received from a resident of Sabuwar Gandu Kwarin Barka Quarters, Kano that he received a phone call from an unknown person who claimed to have kidnapped his 2½-year-old daughter, Amina and demanded a ransom of Two Million Naira (N2,000,000:00) for her release”.

“Consequently, the squad swung into action. Sustained efforts, coupled with intelligence-led technical operations, led to the arrest of the suspect, Zakariyya Muhammad, ‘m’, aged 22 years old, of Sabuwar Gandu Kwarin Barka Quarters, Kano on 05/07/2024 by 8am, i.e. 16 hours after the kidnap incident”, said Kiyawa.
According to the spokesman, the suspect who happened to be a neighbor to the victim confessed to have single handedly committed the offence and led the detectives to where the victim was kept hostage.
“The victim was rescued unhurt in an isolated area in their neighborhood and was rushed to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital, Kano where she was examined, found healthy, and discharged”, he added.
The statement quoted the Kano State Commissioner of Police Salman Dogo Garba assuring the public that the command will not condone any form of criminality and it will deploy all its available assets to forestall all criminal activities and bring the perpetrators to justice.
