Police Arrests ATBU Students for Alleged Robbery

In a swift operation, police personnel in Bauchi have arrested two students of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi (ATBU) for alleged robbery and burglary in Yelwa, a suburb of Bauchi metropolis.

WikkiTimes learned that Yusuf Umar, 28, and Bamusa Bako, 25, are 500 and 400-level students from the department of industrial design and the department of urban and regional planning of the university respectively.

Spokesperson of Bauchi Police Command, SP Ahmed Wakil disclosed this in a statement made available to reporters in Bauchi on Friday.

According to Wakili, the suspects have been apprehended by the Command for suspected criminal conspiracy, housebreaking, and theft.

He said the duo have been assaulting a group of students for a while and were arrested following a complaint the police received.

Wakil said a team of detectives were promptly dispatched to the scene and rescued the victims.

“Preliminary findings suggest that the suspects conspired and broke into the residence of Raji Rabi’u, a 28-year-old 400L student of Estate Management ATBU student where they allegedly made away with 32-inch Hisense TV, DSTV decoder, woofer, speaker, a pair of shoes, blanket and prayer mat,” he said.

Wakil explained that suspects are under investigation and have confessed to the offence.

He added, “They claimed that the proceeds of crime would be used to finance their final-year project defence. They will be prosecuted once the preliminary inquiry is concluded.”
