Police in Dutse have confirmed that four houses were completely burnt while a woman and her children narrowly escaped death when a driver suspected to be drunk rammed into their residential building in Dutse, Jigawa State capital.
According to the police, the incident occurred in the late hours of Sunday when a private car, suspected to have been driven under the influence of alcohol, lost control and rammed into a house where a woman and her children were sleeping.
Shiisu Lawal Adam, Police Public Relations Officer in Jigawa while confirming the incident, said the vehicle collapsed the walls of the house which resulted in the entire house, three neighbours and the vehicle to be engulfed in fire.
According to him, the fire was extinguished by combined efforts of police, firefighters and good Samaritans around the place. He added that preliminary investigation has revealed that the man driving the car has no knowledge of driving.
“As a result of which, both the vehicle and the entire house were engulfed in flames, which affected three (3) other neighboring houses that were also burnt to ashes”, said Lawan.
He said even though no life was lost, the woman and her children were rescued unhurt while properties worth millions of naira were lost in the fire.
“Although, no life was lost. But preliminary investigation revealed that, the said Muhammad Galadima who was later identified as the owner of the vehicle, deliberately handed over the key to Abdullahi Abubakar Sadiq who confessed does not know how to drive”, he added.
