Police Foil Bandit Attack, Rescue 5, One Killed in Katsina Community

The police in Katsina State have foiled bandit attack in Unguwar Batsaka quarters in Jibia town in Katsina and rescued five victims while one other died.

The bandits in their large number with sophisticated weapons stormed the area in the late hours of Saturday with an intent to kidnap some residents.

Confirming the incident, Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the Katsina State Police Command’s spokesman said the bandits were engaged in over one hour gun duel by joint team of police, military and members of Katsina Community Watch Corps (KSCWC).

According to Aliyu, six persons were rescued from the kidnappers and one of them died due to injuries sustained as a result of the attack.

“On October 19th, 2024, at about 2325 hrs, a distress call was received at the Jibia Divisional Police Headquarters on a bandits’ attack on Unguwar Batsaka, quarters in Jibia township, in their numbers, armed with dangerous weapons, shooting sporadically with intent to kidnap some residents of the quarters”, he said.

The spokesman who identified the deceased victim as Rabe Mai Shayi said the bandits fled with gunshot wounds, adding that efforts are on to arrest the fleeing suspects.

“The team successfully rescued six (6) kidnapped victims and were immediately rushed to the hospital for medical attention due to injuries sustained as a result of the bandits attack. Regrettably, one of the victims, simply identified as Rabe Mai Shayi, succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment”, he added.
