Police Invite El-Rufai, ADC Leaders in Kaduna Over Alleged Incitement

The Kaduna State Police Command has invited the immediate past governor, Nasir El-Rufai, alongside several top officials of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), for questioning over alleged criminal conspiracy, incitement of public disturbance, mischief, and causing grievous hurt.

A letter dated September 4, 2025, and signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (CID) Uzainu Abdullahi, directed El-Rufai and six other party leaders to appear at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) on September 8.

Those listed include Bashir Sa’idu, Jafaru Sani, Ubaidullah Mohammed (a.k.a. 30), Nasiru Maikano, Aminu Abita, and Ahmed Rufa’i Hussaini (a.k.a. Mikiya).

While confirming the summons, ADC North-West Vice Chairman Jafaru Sani told Daily Trust that most of the chieftains first learned of the invitation through social media.

The development comes days after a violent clash disrupted an ADC meeting in Kaduna, sparking a heated war of words between El-Rufai and the state government.

Authorities accused the former governor of plotting to destabilise the state through inflammatory actions and statements. In a statement, Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Suleiman Shuaibu, alleged El-Rufai was attempting to “ignite chaos and plunge Kaduna back into ethno-religious tension and insecurity.”

“This government will not fold its arms and allow a discredited former leader, who left the state in ruins, to plunge Kaduna into another era of division and economic stagnation,” the statement read.

El-Rufai, however, dismissed the allegations, insisting that the ruling party was using state institutions to silence the opposition.
