The police in Benue State have killed three suspected Kidnappers, arrested one and rescued one victim in Vandeikya local government area of the state.
The victim, Emmanuel Tor Yaji, a prominent figure in Tsar Mbaduku community was held at gunpoint by four armed men at Tsar while resting with his friends.
Anene Sewuese Catherine, Police Public Relations Officer in Benue told WikkiTimes that police operatives while on the manhunt of the kidnappers trailed them to Kwande LGA of the state where they engaged the suspects in a gun duel.
“On 31/12/2024 at about 1300hrs, the police team in Kwande Local Government Area located the kidnappers at Nambe Adikpo town and engaged them in a gun duel. One of the suspects sustained gunshot injuries and was eventually confirmed dead by a doctor”, she said.
According to her, another suspect was arrested while the remaining two took to their heels and escaped, adding that the victim was rescued unhurt.
Mrs Catherine further said information was received that the remaining two fleeing suspects have been sighted in Nambe village shooting sporadically to scare locals in an attempt to escape. She noted that they were later neutralized by operatives who advanced to engage them.
“The two kidnappers sustained gun shot injuries during the second gun duel. They were confirmed dead at the hospital and corpses deposited at the mortuary”, added Catherine.
According to her, items recovered include two AK-47 rifles, one of them loaded with twelve (12) rounds of live ammunition and three (3) AK-47 magazine.
