Police Rescue Two Kidnapped Victims, Arrest 17 Suspects in Benue

The Police in Benue State have confirmed the arrest of a tax collector and 17 others for an alleged conspiracy to kidnap in the Logo local government area of the state.

In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer in the State, Catherine Anene confirmed the recent success in a statement on Sunday.

The statement noted that the police started the operation after reliable information was obtained from a credible source.

“Upon receipt of the information that was relayed to the Benue State Police Command headquarters in Makurdi, the Commissioner of Police, CP. George Chuku, ordered the deployment of tactical teams to raid the area and ensure that victims were rescued.

She noted that during the invasion and arrest, two kidnapped victims were rescued by the police.

“On 25/11/2023, the police team stormed a hideout where the two victims were rescued at the compound of Zaki Tule Nyam, a tax collector.

Upon interrogation, the kidnapped individuals explained that the kidnappers had asked their families to provide N10 within a week in order to secure their release. “The victims stated that they were held hostage and their families were given one week to source for N10 million as ransom before their release.”

The police spokesperson noted that the arrested individuals will provide the police with reliable information

The items recovered, according to her, were a Dane Gun and a Machete, She charged the residents to cooperate with the police officers deployed to the area by providing credible and reliable information.
