Polio Campaign: LG Boss Warns against Dissemination of Fake Data

The sole administrator of Gwadabawa Local Government Area of Sokoto State, Alhaji Aminu A. Aya has warned Ward Focal Persons (WFPs) against the habit of cooking up data to impress development partners. Aya gave the warning during the review meeting of activities at the ongoing Polio Out Break Response (OBR) at the premises of the LG headquarters.
While reiterating the LGs resolve and commitment in the fight against polio scourge, he stressed that the roles of WFPs is key to the success of the OBR campaign.

“We interested in the challenges you encounter, especially that of non compliance. If you hide that information, to give us impression that you are working and we discover that, you have yourself to blame”.

The LG boss further said that, “we won’t hesitate to fire any focal person, team member or LG personnel found to be sabotaging the effort of the OBR campaign”.

He also used the review meeting to commend NPHCDA, WHO, CDC-NSTOP, AFENET, UNICEF and other development partners for their consistent technical and financial support to Sokoto State and Gwadabawa LG in particular.

“We are grateful for your technical and financial support in the fight against the menace of polio and other areas of health. Our doors will always be open for you in your efforts for the total eradication of polio on the surface of earth”.

Lending his voice too, at the review meeting, the State Immunization Officer, Mallam Shehu Ahmed explained the dangers associated with cooked up data saying, “the damage that fake data causes is dangerous to the polio campaign and other interventions, for that matter.

“Fake data means hiding a non complying house hold through recording it as having taken the vaccines”.

“Yours is position of trust and you should do all that is humanly possible to keep that trust”.

“We are not
interested in the successes, because success speaks for itself. The challenges and gaps observed are the crust of the campaign, because it assist our partners and us in developing strategic plan towards eradicating the polio challenge in our communities”.

Our correspondent reports that Gwadabawa LG is amongst the fifteen local areas is Sokoto state that are implementing in the ongoing OBR Polio campaign.
