Polo Game Can Help Youth Avoid Drugs – Hajiya Mariam Bala

Hajiya Mariam Bala Mohammed, the wife of the Governor of Bauchi State, has said that polo games and sports can go a long way in preventing youth from partaking in drug abuse.

Hajiya Mariam Bala Mohammed stated this on Saturday when she visited the Bauchi Polo Club field and training.

She said that through polo games and other range of sporting activities around, youth have where to invest their time, energy, and meager resources rather than wasting them in drug abuse which proves to be an unrewarding venture polling avalanche of youth in the recent past.

“Through polo games and sports in general, youth can become productive and useful members of the society thereby turning them into valuable assets for the country, the state, and their families.

“We need to harness available polo games resources in the north to take our agile youth off the streets, slums, and dark corners of our communities so we can minimize the prevalence of drug abuse among them,” she said.

Hajiya Mariam Bala Mohammed explained that even though polo game by its nature is a rich man’s sport, children of the masses can become successful grooms and horse handlers at the club and eventually find their way beyond the club to write their names with gold in the world of polo game.

She added that once the Bauchi Polo Club is up and working, more hands will be employed to run the place thereby creating opportunities for Bauchi youth while adding value to their standard of living.

She further explained that Bauchi Polo pitch once upgraded and equipped with the right tools, will serve as a tourist destination and at the same time become a recreational center most especially when it begins hosting local and international tournaments.

Hajiya Mariam explained that the visit was born out of her love and fashion for polo games and to enable her to get first-hand information about the condition of the Bauchi polo club.

“I have seen for myself the condition of the club and I will see how I can intervene to alter the prevailing fortunes f the club to make polo games attractive to our youth,” she said.

Hajiya Mariam Bala Mohammed witnessed the complete training session of the club flanked by the Deputy President of the club, Captain of the team as well as other officials of the team.
