Polytechnic Don Asks Bauchi Assembly To Expedite Renaming BASUG To Sa’adu Zungur University

Dr. Adamu Muhammad Hamid, a Chief Lecturer with the Department of Mass Communication Federal Polytechnic Bauchi, has called on the Bauchi State House of Assembly to ensure speedy completion of the process of renaming Bauchi State University Gadau, BASUG, to Sa’adu Zungur University following the assent to the bill seeking to rename the university after the late Sa’adu Zungur into law by Governor Bala Mohammed.

The Chief Lecturer made the call while presenting a paper during the second Zungur Annual Day organised by Zungur Kogi Youths Progressive Association, ZKYPA, on Sunday. 

Dr Hamid called on relevant authorities at both states and federal levels to immortalise the great literary works of Malam Sa’adu Zungur for future generations to benefit from his philosophies which were used to fight for self-government for the country during the colonial period.

He called on youth groups based in Northern Nigeria to commit themselves to acquiring both western and Islamic education to become self-reliant and ensure stable socio-economic development of the region. 

The Don said education remains a pivotal tool for attaining significant positive changes at the individual level and the society at large.

Dr Hamid lamented how youth threw pragmatic ways and methods of acquiring knowledge used by renowned international philosophers and thinkers whose contributions continue to shape human life and development. 

“You cannot follow shortcut route and get a certificate for the show without being able to actually represent what the certificate entails because you failed to give yourself to get the requisite knowledge and ideas that ordinarily ought to come along with the degree,” the Don said. 

He called on youths to deploy their intellectual prowess to solve many socio-economic problems hindering improvement in the living standards of the people in the Northern part of the country, Nigeria, Africa and the world at large. 

Dr Hamid asked the youths to broaden their intellectual prowess and pass same to the younger generations to make them more productive through organizing rigorous learning centres in their localities to complement government efforts. 

The Chief Lecturer called on parents in the region to support their children to pursue both western and Islamic education, adding that Islam encourages seeking both.

The communication expert who spoke on: The Importance of Education To Present Day Youths, said even first world countries copied many theories in philosophies of medicine and agriculture from Islamic scholars which continue to shape and mould the practice of medicine and agriculture all over the world.

On his part, Deputy Chairman Bauchi local government,  Hon Salisu Yakubu Zungur assured the people of the area of the readiness of their readiness to improve education in the area. 

“We have sent a team of engineers from the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB to reconstruct Zungur primary school and equip it with the state of the art education facilities to enhance teaching and learning,” the Deputy Chairman declared. 

The Ward Head of Zungur, Malam Sa’eed Hamid Bello said education remains the culture of the people of Zungur since the time of Sheikh Othman Dan Fodio, hence the need for all sundry from the area to give themselves towards the development of education. 

The Ward Head approved large farmland for ZKYPA to farm on in order to generate more income to fund its activities.

The Chairman of the Association Comrade, Abdulhamid M Tanko, said the forum was formed to unite the Youths of the area with the aim of bringing development and thanked the personalities despite their tight schedule to grace the event.
