The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University, Kashere, Professor Umaru A. Pate, has donated 20 brand new laptop computers to the University of Maiduguri‘s newly established Faculty of Communication and Media Studies.
The donation was made during a one-day interactive session last week, which brought together mass communication students from the University of Maiduguri, Borno State University, and Al-Ansar University, Maiduguri. The session was hosted by the Department of Mass Communication in collaboration with the Northeast Zone of the Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN) and the Society of Nigerian Broadcasters (SNB).
Professor Pate, a renowned communication scholar and president of ACSPN, handed over the laptops to the department through the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri, Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele. He pledged continued support to the newly elevated faculty to enable it to provide globally competitive education and produce communication professionals equipped with 21st-century skills.
“We must empower communication faculties across the region to be able to train the next generation of journalists and media professionals,” Prof. Pate said.
The University of Maiduguri management, including the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, and Bursar, attended the event. Prof. Mele lauded Prof. Pate’s generosity and described his visit as inspiring for both faculty and students. He affirmed the university’s commitment to advancing the growth of communication and media studies.
Dr. Abdulmutallib A. Abubakar, Head of the Department and Northeast Deputy President of ACSPN, also commended the donation. He said the equipment would go a long way in improving the department’s capacity to deliver digital-era journalism training.
Students who participated in the session expressed appreciation for the opportunity to interact with one of Nigeria’s most respected communication scholars, noting that the experience left them inspired and motivated to pursue excellence in the field.
