The Jigawa State Government has announced a statewide curfew, effective immediately.
Governor Mallam Umar Namadi made the announcement to the people of Jigawa State last night.
The curfew, which will remain in place until further notice, prohibits movement across the state, with security forces authorized to take action against anyone found violating the order.
“We got reports of people planning to loot and destroy people and government properties tonight or tomorrow. We won’t seat and watch people stealing and destroying government properties and for that reason a curfew is hereby imposed, effective immediately, until further notice.
We strongly advise all individuals to adhere to this curfew and stay at home, pending further instructions, to maintain public safety and order” said the State governor.
However, in a concession to religious observance, the curfew will be temporarily relaxed on Fridays, between 12 noon and 2:30 pm, to allow Muslims to attend Friday prayers.
Residents are advised to comply with the curfew and stay indoors during the restricted hours.
