The Bauchi State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has recalled officers and men of the command on pass and annual leave to immediately report back to duty.
This is in preparation of the planned August 1st nationwide protest against biting economic challenges in the country.
The Command’s spokeswoman, Fatima Adamu, in a statement, said the State Commandant, Ilelaboye W. Oyejide disclosed this during an emergency meeting with Area Commanders, Divisional Officers and tactical heads in Bauchi.
Mr. Oyejide said the command has deployed 1200 personnel across the state.
According to him, it is in line with the directive of the Commandant General of the Corps, Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi to all formations for massive deployment to protect lives and properties in the wake of the nationwide protest.
Mr. Oyejide, who cautioned the deployed personnel to be professional in their conduct and not to deviate from the core mandate of the Corps, affirmed the command’s readiness to protect critical national assets and infrastructure in the state.
The statement added that the NSCDC boss charged the personnel to be highly disciplined and build strong intelligent gathering mechanisms to combat bad elements that may hijack the protest.
“The NSCDC Boss directed all officers and men on pass or annual leave to report back immediately. He assured the general public that all machineries have been put in place for any eventualities that might occur in the forthcoming days”.
“The NSCDC Bauchi State Command Boss admonished Officers and Men of the Corps to be highly disciplined and be civil and professional during the planned protest”.
“He equally reiterated the need to build a solid intelligent gathering mechanism to improve the security architecture of the State and to combat bad elements that might hijack the protest with the aim of destroying government facilities”, said the statement.
Mr. Oyejide also called on the people of the state, particularly parents, to talk to their children to embrace peace and dialogue as a means to resolving issues.
