PRP Accuses Bauchi Governor of Mismanagement Amid Rising State Debt

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) in Bauchi State has frowned at the rising debt profile of the state and the alleged mismanagement of resources by the state government.

The PRP said the latest report released by the Debt Management Office (DMO), put Bauchi State at the top of the list of states with the highest domestic debt in Northern Nigeria, with a staggering debt profile of ₦145.2 billion.

In a press statement issued on Monday by its Secretary Wada Abdullahi, the PRP described the situation as a “cruel reminder of the disgraceful governance” under the Bala Mohammed-led administration and its accomplices in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The party lamented that while Bauchi leads in debt accumulation, it ranks among the lowest in development indices, leaving its citizens to grapple with crumbling infrastructure, poorly funded healthcare systems, and dilapidated educational facilities.

“What have these monumental debts brought to the people of Bauchi?” the statement queried. “The answer is as infuriating as it is alarming. Instead of investing in the welfare of the people, the administration has squandered public funds on frivolities like renovating government houses, purchasing luxury vehicles for the elites, and funding non-essential travels.”

The PRP further accused the Bala Mohammed administration of prioritizing “extravagant spending on unnecessary items” while neglecting critical sectors such as electricity, road maintenance, youth employment, and poverty alleviation. The party cited the misuse of security votes, bloated salaries for political appointees, and the lack of transparency in governance as key factors contributing to the state’s financial woes.

“The billions wasted on these frivolities could have been channeled into providing functional hospitals, properly maintained roads, and employment opportunities for our teeming youth,” the statement read. “Instead, the people of Bauchi are subjected to blatant misuse of public funds while their livelihoods deteriorate and their basic needs are disregarded.”

The PRP called on the citizens of Bauchi to hold the administration accountable, urging them to reject what it described as a “cycle of misgovernance.”

The party emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in the management of the state’s resources, warning that the future of Bauchi must not be mortgaged for the “greed of a few.”

“As Bala Mohammed and the PDP continue to lead us into uncharted territories of debt and despair, we must demand better,” the statement concluded. “The time has come for true redemption—let us reclaim our state from the clutches of rogue governance!”
