In a statement signed by the party’s secretary, Hon. Abdulazeez Haruna, the PRP said although the manner in which the chairpersons came to power was marred by widespread irregularities, it emphasized the importance of financial responsibility and independence for the new leaders.

The PRP called on the local councils to ensure that they do not compromise their financial autonomy by surrendering local government funds to the state government or any influential individuals.

The party reminded the local leaders that they are ultimately accountable to the people of their local government areas, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and to God.

The statement added that the recent Supreme Court ruling that grants LGAs full autonomy eliminates any justification for the chairpersons to act as subordinates or to relinquish control over their funds to external parties.

The PRP warned that any attempt to embezzle or misappropriate public funds would not be tolerated, and the party vowed to closely monitor the activities of the local government leaders.

The party stressed that the chairpersons must prioritize the needs of their constituents and work towards delivering tangible benefits to their communities.

The statement concluded with a reminder that the new chairpersons would be held accountable for their actions and urged them to maintain transparency and integrity in all their dealings.
