Public Office Holders Association Honours OBJ, Lai Mohammed, Others

The Public Office Holders Association of Nigeria (POHAN) has revealed it plans to reward persons who have served the nation passionately and excelled in their various fields and personal endeavours.

Dr Adeola Eseyin, National President, POHAN disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja.

NAN reports that POHAN is a group created to encourage good governance and to bridge the gap in public service efficiency.

POHAN also has a sister body named National Public Service Awards and Summit (NAPSAS) which is saddled with the responsibilities of organising merit awards, educative lectures and mentorship summit.

Eseyin said that the initiative was in a bid to encourage and promote excellence at a time when Nigeria was witnessing a dearth in public service and leadership in all spheres.

He added that it was a way to boost morale when the best was afraid of taking responsibilities because of the various crisis the nation was witnessing through insecurity.

He named Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, Sen. Dino Melaye, Mo Abudu, Ibukun Awosika, Clyde Rivers, Prof. Patrick Lumumba among others for ambassadorial awards.

He also named other categories of awards as Governor of the year, Senator of the year, most influential Personality, TV stations of the year, bank of the year among others.

“Birthed to create and achieve effective, transparent and useful mentoring, POHAN was also set up to encourage good leadership, governance and continuation of good works handed over by performing successive government, ” he said.

Eseyin said that there was no better time than now for leaders, stakeholders and private sector drivers to come together with a common voice.

This he said should be devoid of ethnicity, religion and greed in raising or harnessing the energetic youths of the nation.

He said that the youths should be trained to imbibe good leadership habits in other to present them for the great task of building the nation’s future.

Eseyin who doubles as the Director General, NAPSAS, believed that the association which was comprised of present and past public office holders were the right people who could rejig the nation back to course.

He added that this could be through the collaboration of eminent stakeholders, corporate organisations, captains of industries and past political office holders.

“This should not only be by organising lectures, seminars, symposium, walks but also organising award of excellence to encourage those who have excelled in their various fields of leadership endeavour without inanities and unnecessary bickering, ” he said.

Eseyin said that NAPSAS did everything within its power in ensuring an open and transparent voting system to determine the winners of this merit award.

“This is going to be for deserving and exemplary Nigerian leaders, industrialist and those who have made a mark in one area or the other.

“This will be done in other to encourage those who have served the nation passionately and those who have excelled, in their fields of personal endeavours.

“This also will encourage budding youths, entrepreneurs and intending leaders and political office holders to learn at the foot of those who have been there or are still there, ” he said.

The maiden award edition is slated for Oct. 28, with the hosting of eminent personalities to lecture, panel and round table discussion and presentations of the service merit award. (NAN).
