Bauchi State House of Assembly has called on the executive arm to scale down the number of ministries, departments and agencies to reduce duplication of responsibilities among them.
The resolution followed a motion sponsored by a member representing Kirfi local Abdulkadir Umar Dewu, on the floor of the house presided by the Deputy Speaker Danlami Kawule.
Abdulkadir Dewu explained that the motion could provide legislative grounds for the executive arm of government to review structural overlaps and duplication of duties among the MDA’s for better performance and efficient service delivery.
He urged government to constitute a strong committee that would be mandated with the task of overhauling the existing structural formation of the MDA’s in the state.
Contributing to the motion member representing Warji, Yunusa Ahmad commended the mover of the motion and however observed that the motion failed to cite the MDA’s that duplicate one another.
The majority Leader of the House Tijjani Aliyu Madangala and the Deputy Majority Leader Babale Abubakar Dambam noted that the motion was apt as the state government has already set up a committee to overlook the issues of MDA’s
In their remarks Bello Mu’azu Shira representing Shira and Sale Hodi Jibrin representing Disina described the motion as a welcome development with an advice to the members to have the habits of consulting the committee that is relevant to the motion they are presenting for robust contribution.
The house referred the motion to its committee on special duties for further action.
