Resist Political Manipulation, Sen. Buba Cautions Bauchi Emirate

Senator Shehu Buba Umar, representing Bauchi South in the Senate has expressed shock over the Bauchi Emirate Council’s decision to withdraw his chieftaincy title of ‘Mujaddadin Bauchi.’

Bauchi Emirate revoked the title following allegations that the senator disrespected the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed.

In a reply to the Emir of Bauchi, Senator Umar, who also serves as the Senate Committee Chairman on National Security and Intelligence, said the Emirate Council’s decision denied him fair hearing.

He urged the council to avoid being influenced by political actors with selfish interests, warning against dragging traditional institutions into political conflicts.

Senator Umar, the All Progressives Congress (APC), clarified that his recent remarks at a campaign rally were in defense of President Bola Tinubu.

According to the senator, Governor Bala Mohammed made “disparaging comments” about President Tinubu, which he felt were intended to “tarnish the president’s reputation and sow public discord.”

He described the governor’s rhetoric as “confrontational, accusatory, abusive, and defamatory,” accusing the governor of using emotive language that could threaten national security.

The senator further alleged that Governor Mohammed has on several occasions, verbally abused the people of Bauchi State.

Senator Umar also pointed out the significant federal allocations received by Bauchi State, noting that the state government had received over N144 billion from the Federation Account in 2023 and more than N47 billion so far this year. Despite these funds, he claimed that the people of Bauchi have not felt the impact of these allocations.

In his statement, Senator Umar expressed disappointment with the Emirate Council for not providing him with a fair hearing before making their decision.

He stated, “I accept their decision in good faith, hoping that in due time, Almighty Allah will send a messiah to Bauchi State to correct this situation.”

The senator advised the Emirate Council to resist any attempts by political actors to manipulate it for their own gain. He also prayed for the long and healthy reign of the Emir of Bauchi, urging the Emir to continue effectively leading the affairs of the Emirate.
