Nigerian Legionnaires have pledged to support the country’s security architecture in addressing the current security challenges.
The national chairman Nigerian legion Adakoole Johns Akpa (Rtd.) stated this at the graduation ceremony of the Nigerian legion corps of commissionaire in Benue state.
He said the Nigerian legion, with its wealth of experience could play a critical role in providing cover over the public facilities such as schools, hospitals, administrative buildings among others.
Adakole explained that the Legion is planning of creating employment for active men and women after retirement, especially in the face of contemporary high rate of unemployment faced by veterans in the country.
The chairman called on well meaning Nigerians to engage the service of the legion, to allow it provide welfare support for its members alive, especially the incapacitated ones, widows and siblings of departed colleagues.
He said the legion is not a paramilitary organization, but a drawdown of the Nigerian Armed forces posted to work in synergy with other security Agencies for general security management in the society.
The Chairman also thanked the commander, officers and men of the 707 Special Forces Benue, and urged the general public to support in enhancing the welfare of veterans.
Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state who was represented by the permanent secretary ministry of finance Mr Matthew Onyila lauded the ex service men for introducing an outfit that will complement existing security structures to fight crime in Nigeria.
Governor Ortom promised to extend support to the corps to overcome their logistical challenges.
