Retired Soldiers pledge support to end insecurity in Nigeria

Nigerian Legionnaires have pledged to support the country’s security architecture in addressing the current security challenges.

The national chairman Nigerian legion Adakoole  Johns Akpa (Rtd.) stated  this at the graduation ceremony of theNigerian legion corps of commissionaire in Benue state.

He said the Nigerian legion, with its wealth of experiencecould play a critical role in providing cover over the public facilities suchas schools, hospitals, administrative buildings among others.

 Adakole explainedthat the Legion is planning of creating employment for active men and womenafter retirement, especially in the face of contemporary high rate ofunemployment faced  by veterans in thecountry.

The chairman called on well meaning Nigerians to engage theservice of the legion, to allow it provide welfare support for its membersalive, especially the incapacitated ones, widows and siblings of departedcolleagues.

He said the legion is not a paramilitary organization, but adrawdown of the Nigerian Armed forces posted to work in synergy with othersecurity Agencies for general security management in the society.

The Chairman also thanked the commander, officers and men ofthe 707 Special Forces Benue, and urged the general public to support in enhancingthe welfare of veterans.

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state who was represented bythe permanent secretary ministry  offinance Mr Matthew Onyila lauded the ex service men for introducing  an outfit that will  complement existing security  structures tofight crime in Nigeria.

Governor Ortom promised to extend support to the corps to overcome their logistical challenges.
