Rival Clash in Sambisa Forest Claims 15 Terrorists

A supremacy clash between Boko Haram and members of its breakaway faction, Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP), has claimed the lives of 15 jihadits in Gulmari village, Konduga Local Governments Area of Borno State.

Zagazola Makama, a security analyst and counter-insurgency expert around the Lake Chad region said the ISWAP fighters led by Ba’ana Chingori, attacked the Boko Haram fighters in their base.

The source noted that among those killed was Abu Zara, one of the notorious Boko Haram jihadits in the Sambisa forest.

He explained that the clash began with an attack on the convoy of the newly appointed Amir Jaysh of Boko Haram, Alhaji Ali Hajja Fusam on his way from Ali Ngulde camp in Mandara mountain where he received one gun truck, eight motorcycles and weapons.

While the group (Boko Haram) lost 15 fighters, its leader narrowly escaped death.

Another source in Bama hinted that heavy gunshots and bombs continued in the Gaizuwa axis for hours. “As we speak, we are hearing heavy gun firing from Gaizuwa. We learnt that Fusam has escaped but 15 of his fighters were killed,” the source said.

WikkiTimes had earlier reported that Boko Haram fighters fled their camp when members of ISWAP invaded their stronghold in Gaizuwa where one of the ISWAP commanders, Ba’ana Chingori led dozens of his fighters in four Hilux trucks mounted with Anti-Aircraft guns and motorcycles, to attack Abu Ikilima’s camp, in Sambisa forest.

In a vengeance incursion, Boko Haram subsequently killed 33 women believed to be wives of ISWAP terrorists. This was after it lost a top Commander, Malam Aboubakar (Munzir) and other 15 foot soldiers.
