Robbery: Kano Police Nab 27, Recover Phones, Others

Kano Police Command says it has paraded 27 persons suspected to be involved in armed robbery and receiving stolen property.

Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, spokesman for the command Tuesday stated that properties recovered from the suspects include 28 mobile phones, two tricycles, three motorcycles and dangerous weapons.

He said the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mohammed Usaini Gumel, had directed the officers to deal with the criminals terrorizing the state and ensure sustained intelligence gathering.

Kiyawa, a superintendent of police, added that their action against the suspects was in line with directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, to all commands and formations across the country to implement community-oriented policing strategy, application of technology, intelligence policing and visibility patrols.

“Having obtained briefs from the relevant Command’s Departmental Head, the Commissioner of Police directs the use of all Police assets at the Command’s disposal to carry our clearance operations in the aforementioned areas on the 6th and 7th of May 2023 during the last weekend.

“A total of Twenty-Seven (27) suspects were arrested for offences of armed robbery and receiving stolen properties. Twenty-Eight (28) Mobile Phones, Two (2) Tricycles, Three (3) Motorcycles, Eighteen (18) Mobile Phone Batteries and other dangerous weapons were recovered from them. All suspects will be charged in court upon completion of the investigation.

“The Commissioner of Police has further directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Commanders to deal ruthlessly with criminals, ensure robust Community Policing engagements, sustained intelligence gathering and round-the-clock visibility patrols,” he stated.
