Saudi NGO disburses N128m to 371 OVCs in Bauchi

The International Islamic Relief Organization (IIRO) on Tuesday disbursed over N128 million to 371 Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) across the 20 Local Government Areas of Bauchi state.

The intervention was conducted through the Bauchi State Orphans and Vulnerable Agency (BASOVCA) in Bauchi.

Mrs Hassana Arkila, the chairperson of the agency, said that IIRO was from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

“IIRO has cleared 371 out of the 489 OVC enrolled under its sponsorship in the state and the least a beneficiary will receive is not less than N500,000,” she said.

In her speech, the wife of the Bauchi state Governor, Dr Aisha Mohammed, said that the present administration had shifted from child-focused  intervention to family intervention for sustainable development.

“This approach is primarily aimed at giving priority to vulnerable children within the family and community context for effective service delivery,” she said.

Dr Ladan Salihu, the chief of Staff, Bauchi State Government House, said there was need for further collaboration with IIRO in improving the welfare of OVC in the state.
