A court in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria sentenced a security guard, Abubakar Haruna, to six months in prison for allegedly sleeping on duty.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that Haruna’s recklessness gave thieves the opportunity to steal rods, tin roofs and other things from a house he was watching over.

According to BBC Hausa, Adamu Ismail whose sister’s house Haruna was guarding, reported the case to Nassarawa Gwong police station on August 25.
However, Haruna asked the court to be lenient after pronouncing him guilty. But the court sentenced him to a six-month jail term with a fine option of N10,000. In addition, he was also told to pay a sum of N50,000 for compensation.
