Zaar Development Association (ZDA), a Sayawa sicio-cultural group has announced the postponement of the 2020 annual harvest cultural festival known as Lemp Zaar earlier slated for Saturday, the 7th of November over what it calls security threats.
A letter signed by the association’s National Secretary, Mr. Adamu Bagudu and circulated to journalists in Bauchi on Thursday indicated that the postponement was done to avert eminent breakdown of law and order.
According to Bagudu, the decision was taken by the national EXCO at its emergency meeting on Tuesday.
“This decision has become necessary to forestall further breakdown of law and order as enshrined in article 25 and 26 of the ZDA”, he said.
He explained that the measure was to prevent some groups of youth and their sponsors from organizing such a program for the ZDA until favorable atmosphere to do so has improved.
Lemp Zaar is an annual festival celebrated by the Sayawa tribe in Bauchi which showcases a cultural period that celebrates new harvests.
The celebration for the Sayawa is also an avenue to thank their creator for seeing them through the farming season.
