The Senate, on Wednesday, announced the removal of Senator Mohamed Ali Ndume representing Borno North (APC) as Chief Whip.
The removal of the lawmaker followed a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) asking Ndume to resign from the ruling party.
The NWC also suggested that Ndume should join either the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or any other opposition party.
He has been replaced by Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno (APC, Borno North).
Ndume’s removal comes amid tensions within the ruling party, following his critical remarks about President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies.
He has also criticised President Tinubu that he has shut down his doors to people including his ministers.
The letter expressed dismay over Ndume’s continued complaints about President Tinubu, stating that his public comments were not favourable to the Federal Government.
The upper chamber of the Senate, in a voice vote, unanimously resolved to effect Ndume’s replacement. Ndume was absent during the Senate session.
He has been vocal about his concerns regarding President Tinubu’s economic policies, highlighting issues such as economic hardship, food scarcity, and the resultant security crisis.
WikkiTimes recalls that 8th Senate suspended Senator Ndume for six months in 2017 over an allegation of bringing the red chamber into a disrepute.
