Senior Pastor Killed in Benue Church Collapse, 4 Colleagues Injured

Emmanuel Baba, a senior pastor of the Pentecostal church belonging to the Dunamis International Gospel Centre Makurdi, the Benue State Capital, died when the church wall collapsed on him in the wee hours of Tuesday.

The church building which is located in Mission Ward Wadata collapsed at about 2 a.m. leaving four of his colleagues injured and are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.

It was difficult to ascertain the cause of the church building collapse which surprised the worshippers and no emergency staff was seen on the collapsed building during the WikkiTimes’ visit to the scene.

A resident Terwase, 26, noted that worship activities took place in the building on Sunday morning. “I was surprised to learn of the collapse. Yesterday worshippers were here, it is sad that someone has died in the incident.”

The police public relations officer Catherine Anene confirmed the incident saying that one person had been confirmed dead.

Bartholomew Onyeka, the Benue State Commissioner of Police, told newsmen in Makurdi that Pastor Emmanuel Baba and the four others were praying when the accident occurred.

He said the four other pastors were responding to treatment at the hospital.
