Hajiya Aisha Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, wife of Bauchi State Governor has called on Parents in the northern part of the country to ensure the good moral upbringing of their children so as to protect the girl-child from being a victim of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence which has become prevalent in the society.
The wife of the governor stated this at the Re-orientation Campaign on Gender-Based Violence in Wuntin Dada, a suburb of Bauchi metropolis.
Hajia Aisha said the cases of rape, drug abuse and other bad attitudes became worrisome among the younger ones, hence the need for parents and other stakeholders to collaborate in the fighting against Gender-Based Violence.
She said some of the activities of the committee include, reconciliation among the couple, fighting against Drug abuse, Gender violence, sexual harassment and other bad deeds.
While calling on all stakeholders to assist in the crusade, Hajia Aisha commended the effort of the state first lady for her youths and women empowerment programmes.
Speaking the Chairman of the Re-Orientation Campaign on Gender-Based Violence, Imam Abdulrahaman Ibrahim Idris the campaign would round 20 local government areas across the state with a view to providing a massive awareness on Gender-Based Violence to fight the ugly trend in the state.
A legal practitioner, Barrister Shafa’u Ladan represented by Barrister Mohammed Nasir described GBV as a criminal offence, that needs urgent attention to address it.
According to her statistics by the United nations shown that out of three Children one is likely to face gender violence worldwide.
In their separate paper presentations, Malam Muazu Idris Guyaba and Pastor Ibrahim Iliya called on parents to be more active in monitoring the movement of their wards and disassociate them with the bad eggs.
They equally commended the committee for common up with the initiative, describing it as timely.
In his remarks, the District Head of Miri, Malam Hussaini Abubakar Othman thanked the state first lady for choosing his area as a starting point of the campaign against Gender-Based Violence and promised traditional rulers to support in the crusade.
