A popular Kano-based Islamic, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, has called on the Muslim faithful to shun planned nationwide protests against hardship.
The planned 10-day demonstration is being organized to protest increasing hardship in the country occasioned by fuel price hikes, inflation, insecurity among others.
But in a recent sermon delivered by Sheikh Daurawa in Kano, he contended that protests do more harm than good and should not be encouraged.
He said, “We don’t support protest because we have seen what has happened in Syria, Sudan, Libya and Iraq.”
“You may be the orchestrators but some people with wicked intentions might decide to take over. We are all aware of national agitators who are ready to divide the country. They have the resources including money and weapons. They will use you in the process to achieve their aim,” he said.
He advised that instead of protesting, diplomatic ways should be sought including advising the government and relevant stakeholders on the appropriate measures to undertake to address the problem.
“We are not scared. But protests do not yield positive results. People end up losing the little they have. We should advise the government on what to do instead. But in these hard times, we need to be careful of what we say or do,” he added.
The cleric further advised Muslims to seek Allah’s forgiveness and imbibe good behaviours in order to invoke His mercy in these difficult times.
