Shettima, Liberia’s Vice President to Speak at 7th Women Conference and Awards in Abuja

Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima and his Liberia counterpart, Jewel Taylor are expected to speak at the 7th Voice of Women Conference and Awards (VOW2023), slated for October 25.

This year’s event themed ‘Repositioning Women for Greater Impact’ is aimed at challenging societal norms and institutional structures that will usher women into more prominent and influential roles within the realms of governance and leadership. Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, Governor AbdulRazaq AbdulRahman of Kwara State is also expected to speak at the event.

Organized by Women Radio 91.7FM in partnership with the Voice of Women Empowerment Foundation, and with support from MacArthur Foundation, the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Women’s Rights Advancement and Protection Alternative, (WRAPA), Sterling Bank and the Lagos Inland Revenue Service.

According to the Convener and CEO of Women Radio, Toun Sonaiya, the event will serve as a unique platform where leaders, policymakers, advocates, and stakeholders from across the African continent will converge, uniting in a common cause to address and rectify the pervasive issue of gender imbalance within leadership.

The CEO further stated that VOW2023 is meticulously designed to tackle critical aspects such as women’s inclusion in leadership roles, economic empowerment, ownership, and the equitable allocation of financial resources.

Esteemed speakers hailing from Namibia, Kenya, Liberia, and Nigeria will bring forth practical strategies and insights to amplify women’s participation in leadership roles within Nigeria, she said.

Further underscoring the importance of the event, she said it will provide an invaluable opportunity for Nigeria’s 36 First Ladies to collaborate and strategize on initiatives that aim to enhance women’s leadership and development within their respective states.

The ultimate goal of VOW2023 is to leverage the collective wisdom, experience, and expertise of a diverse panel of experts and practitioners. The conference aims to confront and rectify gender-based economic disparities that continue to impede progress and unleash the untapped potential of women.

In a broader context, VOW2023 will also provide a forum for meaningful discussions between African ministers and their Nigerian counterparts, aiming to eliminate gender imbalances in leadership and governance throughout the continent.
