Six Days After Kidnapping Niger Politician, Bandits Release Him, Collect N20m Ransom, Smartphones Worth N680,000

Last Thursday, armed bandits kidnapped Alhaji Sule Angogo, former chairman of All Progressive Congress (APC) from his residence at Zungeru, Wushishi local council, Niger State. The abductors released him Sunday night after receiving a ransom of N20 million and four smartphones worth N170,000 each.

A local familiar with the incident, Ahmed Tanko, told WikkiTimes the bandits went beyond kidnapping the grassroots politician. According to him, the terrorists shot Angogo’s daughter in the leg and macheted his son.

Tanko further explained that the terrorists initially demanded N100 million ransom.

“But the family struggled to raise N15 million and gave it to those negotiating with them,” he said. “Those who took the ransom to the kidnappers were tortured and were asked to raise an additional N5 million including smartphones.”

“Apart from the N20 million, they also collected four smartphones each amounting to N170,000,” he added.

The politician, according to Tanko, was taken to an undisclosed hospital in Minna, the capital of Niger State.

Wasiu Abiodun, spokesman for Niger Police Command was not available for comment. A text sent to him had not been responded to as of press time.
