At least six persons have been confirmed dead and 15 others injured from a fatal road accident along Jama’are-Azare expressway in Bauchi state.
The accident occurred at about 11:30 am on Sunday as a result of overspeeding with 21 passengers onboard a Toyota Hiace belonging to Kano Line with the registration number KN21-H41.
Yusuf Abdullahi, Sector Commander of the Bauchi State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, disclosed this to reporters in Bauchi on Monday.
“The crash involved 21 people, four male adults, 14 female adults, one male child and two female children. Immediately our men at the Azare office were called, our personnel rushed to the scene of the crash for the rescue operation.
“When they got there, they rushed the victims to the Jama’are General Hospital for medical treatment and confirmation. Upon arrival, six female adults were confirmed dead by a medical doctor while 15 others sustained varying degrees of injuries
“Fifteen others were injured. They are made up of four male adults, eight female adults, one male child and two female children,” he said.
The Sector commander called on drivers to ensure all the necessary safety measures bearing in mind that Nigerian roads in the ember period are traditionally characterised by heavy traffic flow.
“We call on drivers to be mindful of their movement on the way. They should always drive at a reasonable speed and they should obey all traffic rules and regulations so that crashes can be reduced to the barest minimum,” Yusuf Abdullahi said.
