The Jigawa State Police Command has confirmed the deaths of six people and the hospitalization of nine others following a vehicular accident in Gagarawa village, Ringim Local Government Area.
According to police source, the accident occurred when a speeding bus lost control and collided with a group of pedestrians celebrating Maulud in the village.
The bus, which was traveling from Gashua in Yobe State to Kano, struck approximately fifteen celebrants.
Shiisu Lawan Adam, spokesperson for the police command, confirmed the incident in a statement available to WikkiTimes.
He stated that the driver of the vehicle, along with the bus, has been taken into custody to maintain public order.
The accident involved a Volkswagen Sharon, driven by Usman Idris, 52, from Doko village in Garki LGA.
The vehicle, bearing registration number Kano NSR 452 ZX, was making its way to Kano when the incident occurred around Sunday evening.
“Upon reaching Gagarawa village, the driver lost control at a high speed and collided with the pedestrians who were celebrating Maulud,” Lawan explained.
“As a result, six individuals lost their lives, while the nine injured victims have been admitted to Ringim General Hospital and are currently receiving treatment.”
