Sokoto Gov’t to Investigate Death of Family of Six After Consuming Cassava Flour

The Sokoto State Commissioner of Health Hajiya Asabe Balarabe has said that the ministry will investigate the death of a family of six who died after consuming suspected contaminated cassava flour in Runjin Barmo village of Shagari local government area.

Mrs Asabe who led a team from the ministry on a visit to the affected community described the death of the family as tragic, assuring that the ministry is taking urgent measures as investigations have commenced in earnest.

Nasser Bazzah, the governor’s Media Aide, said the commissioner’s visit followed the reported death of a household leader, Malam Abubakar Runjin Barmo, his wife and five children after consuming prepared dried cassava flour locally known as (garin alabo).

“Following an incident in Runjin Barmo village, located in the Kajiji district of Shagari Local Government Area, the diligent Commissioner of Health in Sokoto State, Hajiya Asabe Balarabe, led a team from the ministry to the village”.

“The visit was aimed at taking urgent measures and offering condolences to the family of Malam Abubakar Runjin Barmo, who tragically lost his life along with his wife and five children after consuming flour from a dried cassava suspected to be contaminated. The health ministry is currently investigating the matter”, said Bazzah in a statement.

He added that Mrs. Asabe, on behalf of the Sokoto State government, extended her condolences and assured that the ministry will continue its investigation to determine the cause of the incident.
