A Nigerian Army personnel, identified as Lance Corporal Akenleye Femi, has allegedly killed his wife before taking his own life at the Wawa Cantonment in Niger State.
The tragic incident occurred on Saturday, 11 October 2025, according to a statement released on Monday by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Stephen Nwachukwu.
Mr Nwachukwu said the lifeless bodies of the soldier and his wife were discovered in their apartment at Block 15, Room 24, Corporals and Below Quarters, within the cantonment.
“The tragic incident has created tension and shock among residents of the barracks, as investigations continue to determine the circumstances leading to the act,” he stated.
Preliminary findings, according to the army, revealed that Lance Corporal Femi had been on official duty before seeking permission from his superior to attend to a personal matter shortly before the incident.
The statement added that the Nigerian Army “deeply regrets this development” and extended condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the deceased.
Brigadier General Ezra Barkins, Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, has ordered an in-depth investigation into the incident, assuring that the findings will be made public and appropriate measures taken to prevent a recurrence.
The remains of the couple have been preserved pending further inquiry.
