The cravings to salvage Kirfi Local Government in Bauchi State from stark backwardness in all sense of human development is the main trigger of ‘Dewu educational intervention programme’.
Hon. Abdulqadeer Umar Dewu, Member representing Kirfi Constituency said this on Thursday at the instance of Speaker Bauchi State House of Assembly who launched the scheme in Bauchi.
He submitted that the drive to boost education in the Constituency started when he was a member of the 7th Assembly in which he sponsored NECO registration for many students and organized tutorials and remedial for students across the Constituency.
He said, “If you ask me what is my major achievement when I was a member of the 7th Assembly, I will tell you it’s that educational intervention because people are reaping a lot from the gesture.
“This is why I decided to initiate an offshoot of that scheme so that my people will continue to reap the benefits. This programme we are launching today will pay scholarships to about five hundred students comprising masters, degree, HND, diploma and NCE students who are an indigene of Kirfi Local Government across tertiary institutions in the Country. The Committee I set up will go around the Institutions to pay each and every student of Kirfi the scholarship.
Launching the programme, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Y Suleiman, Speaker Bauchi State House of Assembly deemed him an outstanding lawmaker who excelled in initiating projects and programmes for the development of his Constituency.
He added that his deep foresight in initiating the educational support programme to boost education in the area is an investment in education and the best way to develop all communities as no society can develop without education.
Suleiman insisted that the Kirfi born lawmaker has been one of the outstanding lawmakers in the 9th Assembly who is doing very well in legislative activities and delivery of dividends of democracy to his people.
