Supreme Court Adjourns Hearing In Suit Filed By Kaduna, Kogi, Zamfara

The hearing of the case against the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) regarding the naira redesign policy has been adjourned by the Supreme Court until Wednesday, February 22.

The case was brought by ten state governments who are contesting the naira swap policy of the apex bank.

The states have requested an interim injunction to stop the CBN from ending the timeframe for the old N200, N500, and N1,000 notes to cease being legal tender.

On February 8, the court granted a restraining order against the CBN’s February 10 deadline, an order the CBN refused to obey.

The apex court, which heard the case on Wednesday, was filled to capacity with a retinue of Senior Advocates of Nigeria, other lawyers and the governors of Kaduna and Kogi states, Nasir El-Rufai and Yahaya Bello, respectively.
