A student of Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic, Bauchi, has been killed following an armed robbery attack on an off-campus residence.
The attack comes barely two weeks after a similar incident at the Federal Polytechnic Bauchi along Dass Road, which led to the closure of the institution after students’ protest.
Eyewitnesses told reporters that the incident occurred around 3 a.m. on Friday when three armed men stormed a lodge accommodating two students. In the course of the attack, one of the students, identified as Samuel Mbami, an ND II Mass Communication student, was stabbed in the stomach. He later died from excessive bleeding.
The Bauchi State Police Commissioner, Sani Aliyu, confirmed the arrest of some suspects in connection with the incident, assuring that the command would “leave no stone unturned” in bringing the perpetrators to justice. He also urged residents to promptly report suspicious movements and hinted at plans to establish a divisional police headquarters in Wuntin Dada to strengthen security.
In a statement, the Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the polytechnic described the killing as “tragic and senseless.” Signed by its president, Usman Aliyu, the union demanded a thorough investigation and called for improved security on campus and in surrounding communities. It also urged students to remain calm and prioritize their safety.
