Taraba, Ondo, Others Withhold Workers’ Salaries For Months

Civil servants in various states across Nigeria including Taraba, Ondo  and Abia States are battling months of unpaid remuneration.

BudgIT reports that the governments are owing salaries of workers at both the national and sub-national levels which has been confirmed to pose a breach of the basic contractual provision by law.

WikkiTimes gathered that secretariat staff in Taraba state have experienced an irregular pattern of salary payment for 6 months. 

Similarly, lecturers and some health workers at the state level in Ondo state have not been paid in the last four months. 

Joseph Anthony (Pseudonym), a secondary school health institution worker in Abia also confirmed to BudgIT that the Abia state government has not paid salaries in the last 10 months. He added that the government also owes some of the workers other allowances apart from basic salaries.

Government’s refusal to pay salaries is not uncommon across all levels. Apart from depriving the workers of their constitutional rights, it also affects a crucial part of the employer/employee relationship and curbs the functions of the organizations involved.
