Three in Police Net for ‘Gang-raping’ Bauchi Street Hawker

Police operatives in Bauchi have arrested three persons for allegedly gang-raping a 12-year-old hawker in Dambam local area of Bauchi State.

The suspects, according to the police, lured the girl who was hawking a soyabean cakes to the outskirt of Dambam market and forcefully had canal knowledge of her.

A statement by the spokesman for Bauchi Police Command, Ahmed Muhammed Wakil revealed that the father of the victim took her to Dambam General Hospital for medical observation, discovered that his daughter was raped.

“On 18/05/2023 at about 1200hrs a distress call was received from a Medical Doctor serving in General Hospital Dambam disclosed that on the same date at about 1130hrs, one (Hafsat Habu) not real name ’f’ Age 12yrs of Jalam town Dambam L.G.A in a accompany of her father named Buba Usman ‘m’ of same address came to the Hospital for medical attention of the said Hafsat Habu. It was discovered that the girl was raped based on medical examination,” said Wakili in the statement.

According to him after receiving the information, a team of detectives led by the DPO Dambam Division commenced a discreet investigation which led to the arrest of the suspects.

“On receiving the information, a team of detectives led by Divisional Police Officer(DPO)Dambam visited the hospital and launched Discreet investigation on the matter.

“Consequently, investigation revealed that on 17/05/2023 at about 1200hrs the victim while hawking tofu (awara) at Dambam market was lured by a group of three persons to the outskirts of the market and forcefully had unlawful canal knowledge of her,” he added.

Wakil added that during the Investigations the police arrested the trio of Babangida Buba ‘m’ age 35yrs of Rugan Waziri Dambam L.G.A, Kamisu Garba ‘m’ age 27yrs of Dambam town, Dambam LGA and Yahaya Babayo ‘m’ age 30yrs of Busuri village Katagum LGA.

In a related development, police operatives have arrested one Ibrahim Abdullahi ‘m’ aged 27yrs of Itas town for allegedly raping a 7 year old girl in Itas Gadau LGA, Bauchi State.

The police said the suspect allegedly lured the girl in to a toilet in Science Central Primary School, Itas Gadau and raped her.

“On 13/05/2023 at about 1730hrs one Umaru Yusuf ‘m’ aged 38yrs of Itas town reported at Itas Gadau Divisional Police Headquarters that on the same date at about 1259hrs one Ibrahim Abdullahi ‘m’ aged 27yrs of Itas town, deceitfully lured a 7yrs old Ameera ‘f’ (not real name) of the same address into a toilet at Central Science Primary School Itas town, Itas-Gadau LGA, and forcefully had unlawful canal knowledge of her.

“On receipt of the report, the team of detectives led by the DPO visited the scene and took the victim to the General Hospital Itas-Gadau, while the suspect was arrested,” said Wakili.

Wakil said operatives of the command have also arrested a 16 years old cattle rearer for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl in Toro local government after threatening her with a matchete.

The victim according to the police statement was returning home from a hill in Miya-barkete village of Toro LGA after fetching firewood for her parents when she was stopped by the suspect who wielded a matchete to scare her before taking advantage of her.

“Still on 06/05/2022 at about 1820hrs one Fatima Abdullahi ‘f’ 17yrs of Miya-barkete Town, Toro LGA, accompanied by her parents of the same address, reported at Toro Divisional Police Headquarters that on the same date at about 1600hrs, the victim was on her way coming back from Kayara hill where she went to fetched firewood was suddenly confronted by one Adamu Lawan ‘m’ aged 16yrs of Lere village via Tulu, Toro LGA, while rearing some cows. He halted her with a machete and forcefully had unlawful carnal knowledge of her on the spot”.

“On receipt of the report, a team of detectives led by DPO visited the scene, and rushed the victim to General Hospital Toro for medical examination where Doctor confirm of penetration,” said Wakil.

According to him all the suspects have confessed to the crime and would be prosecuted in court upon completion of investigations.
