A dispute over grazing land in Kalai village, near Barabda forest in Jigawa State’s Kiyawa LGA, erupted into violence, leaving three people wounded and six others rescued from attack.
According to Lawan Shi’isu Adam, Jigawa State Police Command spokesman, the herders, acting on misleading information that the state government had revoked farmland allocations, released their cattle onto growing farms, sparking a confrontation with farmers.
“Preliminary Investigation revealed that the herders acted on misleading information that the state government revoked all farmland within the forest reserve that was allocated for farming activities”, said Adam.
He said the situation was brought under control through the efforts of the police with support from Miyatti Allah Kautal Hore, Association of Farmers of Nigeria, Local Government Council, and security agencies.

Adam said due to the tense situation the police made no arrest to avoid escalating the situation, but two herders’ leaders were identified and will be invited for questioning through Miyatti Allah leadership.
He said the police have intensified patrols in the area to maintain peace, and efforts are ongoing to reconcile the farmers and herders.
The injured victims were treated and discharged from the hospital.
Jigawa and Kano states are the only states with relative peace among the seven states in the Northwest.
This incident highlights the ongoing tensions between farmers and herders in the bandit-ravaged region, emphasizing the need for effective conflict resolution mechanisms to prevent such clashes.
