TikToker, Musician Sentenced to Five Months in Prison for Naira Abuse

Justice S.M. Shuaibu of the Federal High Court in Kano has convicted and sentenced a TikToker, Abubakar Ibrahim (popularly known as G-Fresh), and a musician, Hamisu Sa’id (also known as Hamisu Breaker), to five months’ imprisonment each for abusing Naira.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned the two entertainers on separate one-count charges of spraying and trampling on naira notes during social events in violation of Section 21(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act, 2007.

According to court documents, G-Fresh was found guilty of spraying and stepping on ₦14,000 in ₦1,000 denominations while dancing at a shop in Tarauni LGA of Kano State in November 2024.

Similarly, Breaker was charged for spraying ₦30,000 in ₦200 denominations during a social gathering in Hadejia, Jigawa State, within the same month.

The duo pleaded guilty to the charges when read before the court. Based on their pleas and evidence presented by EFCC counsel, Zarami Mohammed, Justice Shuaibu convicted both men and sentenced them to five months in prison with an option of a ₦200,000 fine each.

Their prosecution follows a crackdown by the EFCC on the abuse of Nigeria’s currency at social events and public gatherings.
