Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Thursday, directed the security agencies to collaborate with state governors in combating marketers who hoard food items.
The decision followed a meeting held by the President with state governors on Thursday to address the nation’s food shortage crisis.
Specifically, President Tinubu tasked his security adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Head of the Department of State Services (DSS), Yusuf Bichi, with implementing this directive.
The attention of the presidency has been drawn to this issue following recent protests against soaring food prices, with many attributing the high costs to marketers hoarding food items.
WikkiTimes reports that the Kano State government has already taken action by cracking down on some food warehouses suspected of hoarding the items, allegedly waiting for prices to increase before selling them.

Over 10 warehouses were shut down during the operation led by the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Crorruption Commission (PCACC), who mandated the marketers to release them in the market for the public.
Rising food prices have sparked widespread concern across Nigeria, prompting community leaders to urge the government to take urgent action to address the crisis that compelled millions of people into hunger and abject poverty.
